For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

Is my 3D printer compatible with the Cakewalk 3d?

Cakewalk 3d works with many of the most popular cartesian 3D desktop printers. To see if your 3D printer will be supported at launch, search for your model on our Supported 3D printers List: https://www.lapatisserienumerique.com/en/cakewalk-3d-en/assembly-instructions/ You’ll find the 3D files of the supporting parts for free download on this page.

We plan to support additional models in the future, but please understand that using the Cakewalk 3D with any 3D printer not listed as “fully supported” is at your own risk.

How long does it take to assemble Cakewalk 3d?

Before the first use, you’ll need to build the kit i.e. do three things: - uninstall the extruder for filament of your 3D printer, - install the supporting part on the X-axis, - install and connect the motor for extrusion. This usually takes less than 25 minutes.

When this first step is done, you’ll need 5 minutes to install the cartridge and 4 screws.

Why do you add ingredients in the box?

3D printing with the Cakewalk 3d is a lot of fun! As usual in the 3D printing field, you’ll need to experiment at the beginning. In order to make the process easier, we add proven recipes and tested ingredients to the kit.

The ingredients are power-based so you will only need to add water and whip the liquid to get the desired texture. The mix is tasty and easy to extrude with Cakewalk 3d. We will also provide you with profile examples for your slicer.

Currently we have developed a meringue mix, a tomato-snack mix and a vegan fruit mix.

The weight of the sachet is 50g/1.76 oz

Why do you add a silicone mat in the kit?

Installing a silicone mat on your 3d printer is useful for many reasons. It’s easy to clean, it’s food-safe, it won’t burn when you heat the bed, it’s easy to remove at the end of the 3d printing and thick enough to put directly into an oven.

The silicone mat is designed like a cutting board. Based on our experience it will help you in positioning the dessert under the print head when you 3d print food directly on something else (a cake, a plate…)

Do I need to change anything on my 3d printer settings?

3D printing with Cakewalk 3d requires a bit of tuning. You’ll need to check the Z offset, after installing the cartridge for instance. The parameters can be implemented into a new configuration in your favorite slicer. There’s no need to change the Eeprom settings or move the switch limit.

Is there any modeling or slicing software?

We don’t provide or recommend any 3d printing software. You can use your favorite CAD platform, or pick a 3D file on your favorite marketplace and slice it with the 3d slicer of your choice. We provide you with a set of parameters for the slicer that worked well for most popular materials. A constant update will be done on our website https://www.lapatisserienumerique.com/en/cakewalk-3d-en/recipes/

How fast can Cakewalk 3D operate?

The printing speed depends on the material used. For viscous materials, you need to have enough time to get a regular line and that means slow printing speed. You can check the settings of the most popular materials on our website https://www.lapatisserienumerique.com/en/cakewalk-3d-en/recipes/

What difference between Cakewalk 3D and the other paste extruders on 3D file marketplaces?

Cakewalk 3d is an open design and you can source and assemble the kit yourself if you want to. At the Digital Patisserie, we are very strict on food safety. Our kit will be made with the state-of-the-art food-grade materials. The aim of this Kickstarter campaign is to launch a bulk production of the parts that need to be injected.

Cakewalk 3d kit comes also with ingredients, recipes, settings, based on our experience and knowledge. You may consider it as a pastry box where the main device needs to be installed on your 3d printer.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
